About

Dede Lifgren standing in the doorway of her studio.

Dede Lifgren’s love of gardening, mixed surface textures, and subtle color drama spur her in all things creative. Starting out in college as a political science major at SUNY Oneonta, Dede applied to study fine arts in France on a whim. Studying and traveling throughout Europe cemented her desire to pursue a career in art, prompting her to move to California to attend the SF Art Institute.

Dede has founded several successful art-based retail businesses: VersaTile (custom ceramic tile designs), Capuchinz Hats and Accessories (fedora style hats and jewelry with imaginative pattern mixes), and Walls of the Wild (life size vinyl stickers based on Dede’s animal and plant paintings).  Dede has also works with paint, clays, and cement to create two and three dimensional art for her gardens and home in New York State.

Her current fine art wall sculpture series uses recycled and repurposed cardboard as the medium to examine the transformative process of growth, change and rebirth. She weaves, shapes, and alters the surfaces of the mundane material to create rich, dramatic sculptural paintings. Dede now offers what has always been her personal studio work to the public.
